Australian Catholic University Student Services Privacy Statement
Australian Catholic University Student Services (hereafter Student Services) is committed to the National Privacy Principles articulated in the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act, 2000, and the application of these as expressed in the University’s Statement of Privacy (25 June 2002).
The privacy of any information collected by computer access is regulated by the University Computer Use Policy.
Privacy applications specific to Student Services include:

Collection of information
Student Services collects personal information which may include names, addresses, telephone numbers and student university email addresses about:
- those students who first refer themselves to Student Services;
- those students who are referred to Student Services and whom Student Services consider they have legitimate reason to access a student’s personal information
In every case, Student Services will only collect as much information as is deemed necessary to assist/address the student concern.

The information enables Student Services to:
- identify individual students and their needs;
- provide assistance to the individual student;
- respond to any authorised enquiries
- enable Student Services to develop materials, plans, programs etc. to assist groups of students

Disclosure
No information about a student will be disclosed without the student’s authorisation. Exceptions to this are:
- when the Student Services makes a professional judgement that the student is in imminent danger or risk;
- when information is demanded by a Court under a subpoena

Register
Student Services will maintain a register of any disclosure of student information.

Any information published within/beyond the University about students will be non-identifying; that is, the information will be statistical, generalised information and no student will be able to be identified.

Security of Information
Information collected is retained in a secure location and is not able to be accessed – viewed, heard or read – by a third party.
Information collected is restricted to those who have a need to it in order to perform their duties.

All forms used by Students Services to collect personal information include an explicit statement about our commitment to privacy.

Relevant University Policies

Electronic Registration
Students register electronically with Student Services to make appointments. The appointment information supplied by the student could be seen by: the programmer, the systems administrator, the unit staff on that campus and the unit manager. Each of these staff is obliged to retain student privacy under the University and/or TimeTrade Privacy Policy.

Student Requests
If students consider that their privacy has been breached by Student Services they are asked in the first instance to contact the Dean of Students. If this contact does not satisfactorily address the student’s concerns, it is recommended that the student contact the Executive Director, University Services.
