Disability Services
Disability services are provided by the Equity and Disability Unit.
ACU National is committed to promoting access and equity for students with disabilities or long-term medical conditions, and aims to provide an environment in which all students can participate fully in the life of the University.
In support of this aim, Disability Advisers
- provide an assessment and planning service and coordinate adjustments to meet the needs of students with disabilities, and
- advise and liaise with the staff of the University concerning students with a disability.
You should tell us as early as possible. The sooner you tell us the sooner we can plan for your needs. To do this you should
- Indicate that you have a disability, preferably when you apply, but if not, when you enrol. Information about your disability is treated in confidence.
- Contact a Disability Adviser as early as possible, preferably before the semester begins.
If you acquire a disability during your studies, or if a condition that you weren’t expecting to cause you problems worsens, remember that you can contact a Disability Adviser at any time during the semester.
Note: The University will require you to provide documentation from an appropriate professional to the Disability Adviser if you expect that you will need adjustments because of your disability.
What will happen then?
The Disability Adviser will work with you to determine the impact of your disability or condition on your studies. The Disability Adviser will discuss disclosure issues with you and together you may develop an Education Inclusion Plan (EIP) that sets out the adjustments needed because of the impact of your disability or condition on your studies. EIPs can be updated when necessary.
