Jim-Baa-Yer
Jim-baa-yer Indigenous Support Unit, which is co-located at the Melbourne and Ballarat campuses, employs an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to work with current and prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It also provides support in relation to indigenous issues to faculties and schools within ACU National. Jim-baa-yer Indigenous Support Unit assists with and provides access to resources for all Victorian ATSI students. This can take the form of one or more of the following:
- academic support, such as advice and tutorial assistance
- administrative support, such as arranging meetings with academic and student services, and helping with University procedures
- social, cultural and personal support.
Further information about Abstudy applications is also available from this unit.
These services can begin before enrolment at ACU National. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can contact the Aboriginal Liaison Officer on any matter to do with their studies, or the studies they hope to undertake. Other functions of the Jim-baa-yer Aboriginal Support Unit include teaching, the promotion of Australian indigenous culture, advocacy, research and consultancy. The Unit actively supports schools and centres at ACU National in developing appropriate Aboriginal perspectives to all courses, and can offer an indigenous perspective to ACU National staff and services.
