Academic Skills Unit

Academic Skills Advisers can help you with:

  • learning strategies and skills for university study
  • planning and organising study
  • effective reading techniques
  • structuring and organising writing
  • improving writing skills
  • citing information and creating a list of references
  • preparing for exams

Our services and resources are designed for ACU local and international students, including undergraduates and postgraduates studying on campus, fully online or away from base.

Students who are new to tertiary study or are having difficulties with how to study are encouraged to contact the Academic Skills Unit.

Services

Workshops

In Orientation week, there are workshops on all campuses. Check Orientation programs on your campus for more details.

During the semester, you can also attend workshops on topics, such as:

  • Time Management
  • Academic Writing
  • Giving Presentations
  • Academic Referencing

Individual and group consultations

You can use our online booking system to make an individual or group appointment with an Academic Skills Adviser. If you are studying fully online or are unable to visit a campus, you will also need to phone or email the adviser so that an "over the phone" consultation can be organised for your appointment time. See Make an Appointment or Contact Us.

Resources

The Academic Skills Unit offers a range of online resources, see Study Tips and Techniques, and print resources like the ACU Study Guide: Skills for Success.
