Ceremony Day
• 2-3 hours before the ceremony (see Fact Sheet on ceremony for specific time) graduands arrive, register and collect their academic dress.
• 50 minutes before the ceremony begins, graduating students are briefed in the graduation hall.
• At the ceremony start time the ceremony commences with the entry of the academic procession to musical accompaniment.
• The awards of graduands are then conferred.
• New Graduates then sit and await individual presentation on the stage to the presiding Officer. At this time, graduates are presented with their testamur.
• Following the presentation of graduates, the speaker delivers the occasional address.
• The liturgical elements of the ceremony then follow.
• The ceremony is then closed.
• All those on stage then retire to musical accompaniment, followed by the graduates.
• Following the ceremony , graduates and guests join with the members of the Official Party for light refreshments in the foyer of the ceremony hall.
How long will the ceremony go for?
The length of each graduation ceremony depends mainly on the number of graduands attending.
However, you can use the following times as a general guide:
- Canberra - 1 hour 15 minutes
- Sydney (Arts and Sciences) - 1 hour 45 minutes
- Sydney (Health Sciences) - 2 hours 45 minutes
- Sydney (Education) - 2 hours 30 minutes
- Ballarat - 1 hour 15 minutes
- Melbourne (Arts and Sciences) - 1 hour 30 minutes
- Melbourne (Health Sciences) - 1 hour 45 minutes
- Melbourne (Education) - 2 hours
- Brisbane - 2 hours 30 minutes
