Late addition of units
A student may add a unit to an existing enrolment after the periods noted in Regulation 4.3.1 only if –
(a) authorised by the Lecturer-in-Charge and approved by the Course Co-ordinator, in order to correct an error in enrolment identified and corrected within 30 days after the census date; or
(b) approved by the Dean, where the addition is sought more than 30 days after the census date and prior to the commencement of the central examination period in the next standard study period. The Dean would normally determine the matter on the recommendation of the Course Co-ordinator after consultation with the Lecturer-in-Charge, and only on the basis of exceptional circumstances which would have precluded the student from acting within the prescribed period; any such late change may incur liability for additional fees and charges.
(c) Where teaching commences on a date other than the nominated Study Period Date or the Nominal Date for Classes to Commence then the last date to add a unit in a non-standard study period is the day before classes actually commence
A higher education provider may only vary a published census date or EFTSL value if:
- the reason for the change was unforeseen by the higher education provider at the time the census date or EFTSL value was published; and
- the reason for the change was beyond the higher education provider’s control; and
- the higher education provider has advised the Department of Education, Science and Training, in writing, of its intention to vary, and its reasons for varying, the published census date or EFTSL value.
For circumstances to be considered unforeseen under these guidelines, the circumstances must be unusual, uncommon or abnormal.
For circumstances to be considered beyond the higher education provider’s control under these guidelines, the circumstances must be such that a reasonable person would consider the circumstances to not be due to the higher education provider’s action or inaction, either direct or indirect.
If circumstances covered in Note 1 prevail then a higher education provider may vary a published census date or EFTSL value for a unit of study up to two months before the earlier of:
- the date of commencement of the unit of study; and
- the last date that a student can enrol in the unit of study without incurring a late enrolment fee.
