ACU National Stars Shine


The Australian University Games were held at the Gold Coast from the 24 – 28 of September 2007. The Games brought together 105 students from Brisbane, North Sydney, Strathfield, Canberra and Melbourne campuses to participate in a range of sports.

 

ACU National fielded teams in the following sports; Australian Rules, Athletics, Touch Football, Cross Country, Netball, Swimming, Cycling, Lawn Bowls and Beach Volleyball. ACU National’s competitiveness and determination was demonstrated with medal winning performances in the individual sports (Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country) and strong performances in the team sports, allowing the ACU National team to finish in 30th place from a field of 42 competing universities.

ACU National represented at snow sports competition

ACU National was represented with distinction at the Australian University Snow Sport Championships this month by Natalie Maclarn of the Strathfield Campus (Mount Saint Mary), who competed in three events.

Natalie, a second year Bachelor of Exercise Science student, participated in the border cross, the giant parallel slalom and the half-pipe events at the championships, held recently at the Perisher snowfields.

Natalie, encouraged to take up winter sports by her parents, has been skiing since she was four years old and took up snowboarding about seven years ago.

ACU National Set to Create a Storm at the Australian University Games

The Australian University Games (AUG) will be held from 23 - 28 September on the Gold Coast and will this year field the largest team with 100 athletes participating in AFL (mens & womens), Lawn Bowls, Netball, Beach Volleyball.

Natalie Maclarn To Represent ACU National at Snow Sports

Natalie will fly the ACU National flag at the Australian University Championships of Snow Sport this week in Perisher. Natalie will compete in the boarder cross, half pipe snowboard and the snowboard parallel giant slalom. We wish Natalie the very best of luck!!

 

Congratulations to Sarah Katsoulis, Melbourne Campus Exercise Science Student.

Sarah was a silver medalist at the recent World University Summer Games held in Thailand, Bangkok. Sarah won silver in the 100m breastroke with a time of 1:08.42 and another silver in the 50m breastroke with the time of 31.51

Exercise Science Students Ready to Take on the World

ACU National athletes will represent Australia at the World University Summer Games in Bangkok, Thailand from the 8th to 18th of August. The World University Summer Games is held every two years by the International University Sports Federation, which attracts over 8,000 of the world’s best athletes. Exercise Science students, Grant Nel (Diving), Sarah Katsoulis and Chelsea Carpenter (swimming) will form part of the 185 strong Australian squad.

Grant Nel, a first year exercise student and a member of the 2007 Australian Development Squad, will hope to finish amongst the medals after an impressive performance at the FINA World Championships in March earlier this year. Sarah Katsoulis, an exercise student from Melbourne campus who is currently ranked in the top 5 breastrokers in the country is set to finish in the medals. While ACU National’s other member of the World University Summer Games Australian swimming team, Chelsea Carpenter will also fight for the medals in the breastroke and lead the team in the 400m Individual medley.

ACU National would like to wish these competitors the very best of luck as they represent our university on the world stage.
