Outlook Email Migration Project
Project Overview
The Information Technology Directorate has commenced a project that will migrate all staff from the Lotus notes email system to Microsoft Outlook 2007 (or Entourage 2008 for Mac users). There are many benefits for our University with regard to improved integration with powerful tools such as SharePoint, Office 2007 and an improved user interface. As an organisation that welcomes many new staff each year this simplified interface will cut down on staff training requirements.
Additional benefits will include:
- Increased productivity and usability for staff with a reduced cost of ownership for ACU;
- Easy to use and fully integrated email, calendar, tasks and contacts system;
- Enhanced security with improved spam filtering and anti-virus protection;
- Increased server availability and reliability with improved mailbox size and archive recovery options;
- Easy to use webmail client for access from outside the University;
- Improved integration with hand-held and mobile communication devices;
- Collaborative environment with tools that allow easier collaboration on documents.
The migration will include converting your mailbox and folders, calendar, contacts, tasks and current archives to the Outlook format and IT staff will complete this process for you. As we progress through this project we will update staff on progress and contact you when we are ready to migrate you to the new system.
Training and Support
There are a range of IT Training resources provided by ACU to assist staff with this transition and the IT Client Service team will be happy to provide additional help where required.
The IT Service Desk will also be happy to provide assistance if you have any concerns or questions about this migration process.
Update — November 2008
The Outlook email migration is progressing well. We have now migrated in excess of 1700 staff accounts to the new email system. The feedback from those that have been migrated has been positive.
