Management Development

ACU National recognises the crucial role played by nominated supervisors at the University. It also recognises the benefit of having them skilled and motivated to perform their roles. The University therefore provides a range of learning and development activities focused on increasing these skills.

TRAINING FOR SUPERVISORS

Role of Chair in Recruitment and Selection

(To be confirmed)

This workshop mandatory for new supervisors, but open to staff members aspiring to work in a supervisory role. It is designed to ensure that Chairs of Selection Committees have an overall understanding of the recruitment process, the selection process, the role of the Chair, legal obligations, and relevant policies and procedures.

This program is currently being redesigned to be run by Human Resource Consultants.

Responsibilities of the Supervisor

(To be confirmed – with official roll out of ‘Responsibilities of Supervisor Guidelines’)

This workshop is mandatory for new supervisors, but open to staff members aspiring to work in a supervisory role. It will cover responsibilities of the supervisors in applying and implementing University policies, procedures and legislation. It includes information about the range of policies that a supervisor is required to apply.

Certificate IV in Frontline Management

The Frontline Management Program is a nationally recognised qualification (Certificate IV) designed for developing and improving the competencies of frontline managers and supervisors, and is undertaken through OTEN Distance Learning.

The program is aimed at general staff supervisors, assistant supervisors, team leaders and those general staff who are being developed for a leadership role. ACU National offers up to ten scholarships a year. Each scholarship will cover the cost of undertaking the Certificate IV in Frontline Management, including annual fees plus a book allowance of up to $150 per Program.

Emotional Intelligence and Effective Conversations

Effectively dealing with our own emotions and those of other people is widely accepted as a key factor in having a productive and satisfying work life.

This half day workshop provides a framework for understanding emotional intelligence (EI) and how it applies to you personally and in your dealings with others. This workshop is an extension of the workshop ‘Dealing with Difficult Behaviour’ facilitated last year and may therefore overlap in content. (If you attended ‘Dealing with Difficult Behaviour’ last year, it is not recommended that you attend this workshop).

The workshop will cover:

  • Identification of situations that are emotionally challenging
  • Understanding Emotional Intelligence and applying the skills it in the workplace
  • Using EI to facilitate effective conversations.
