ACU National supports a working environment which enables staff to develop their skills and effectiveness within the University, and to promote improved performance in support of university goals and priorities.
To do this, ACU National provides opportunities for general staff to undertake relevant learning and development consistent with the Mission and supportive of the strategic directions of the University. These opportunities are in line with University policies on Quality Management, Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action and Occupational Health and Safety.
Learning & Development Program for General Staff
An annual program of short courses and learning and development activities for General Staff on offer throughout the year is provided.

Management Development
Programs aimed at nominated supervisors include Responsibilities of the Supervisor, Supervisory Suite included in the Annual Learning and Development Program and the Certificate IV in Frontline Management.
Lunch Box Sessions
A series of short lunch time sessions on a range of human resources and related topics.
Study Support
General Staff are encouraged to undertake further studies and may apply for Study Leave and Financial Assistance to do so.
Compliance on-line Training
A series of courses that staff can complete on-line. All new staff are required to complete these courses within the first three months of their employment.
IT Courses
Training in IT applications is arranged through external providers an as needed.

VC Development Award
Two Awards are offered each year to General Staff to undertake a project that advances both the individual staff member and the Strategic Plan of the University.
LH Martin Institute Executive Education Program
The LH Martin Institute Executive Education Program is designed to support and promote the development of leadership and management capabilities for both academic and general staff. (This program replaces programs formerly operated through the AVCC or Universities Australia.)
Performance Development Program (PDP) for General Staff
ACU National has a developmental tool in place called the Performance Development Program (PDP). The main objective of the PDP is to establish annual performance-related feedback between the staff member and the nominated supervisor. Sustained excellence in performance can result in the recommendation of a performance bonus.
Learning & Development Consultancy
The Learning and Development Unit (L&D) can assist other Organisational Units to identify learning and development needs and recommend appropriate solutions for meeting these needs.
