Finding Out About Employment Matters at ACU
In Human Resources we acknowledge that the many changes to employment related matters together with the arrival of new staff in HR creates a situation in which some of our customers are not always sure where to go for broad employment-related information and assistance. Moreover, we are keenly aware that our customers need to know who they should contact in relation to their needs for assistance and with specific queries. We hope, therefore, that the following helps staff, who are in need of assistance, advice or information, to appropriately make contact with HR.
Making Contact
It is not necessary for you to know or need to remember exactly who you should contact in HR. When you make contact with your local HR Consultant you will either be directly assisted at that point, if appropriate, or you will be referred to the most appropriate HR officer at a central service level.
In some cases, HR staff at a central service level may initiate direct contact with you, or you may have been requested by HR to make direct contact with an HR officer (at a central service point) in relation to a particular matter or an ongoing query. Once you have established contact with the appropriate local or central service HR officer on a specific matter, it is advisable that you continue to work with this person as they will have the relevant background or contextual information to assist you appropriately. Approaching other officers of HR will cause unnecessary delay.
Local Services
There are seven HR Consultants within HR Consultancy Services, two each in Brisbane (responsible for McAuley at Banyo and Signadou Campuses) and Melbourne (responsible for St Patrick's and Aquinas Campuses), and, three in Sydney (one responsible for MacKillop and two responsible for Mount St Mary Campus). These staff are the "front-line" HR representatives who can generally assist you across a wide range of areas. These include:
- enterprise agreement and/or policy advice and interpretation as these broadly relate to employment;
- employee relations assistance to supervisors and staff;
- training and coaching of staff and supervisors on employment related matters;
- staff related equal opportunity matters;
- rehabilitation support;
- workers compensation/work cover; and,
- recruitment and associated advertising.
HR Consultants will generally be the first contact point for all staff and supervisors at the local level. They will answer most staff and supervisor needs, and if necessary they will refer queries or staff to another HR staff member who has a central or specialist responsibility. In the first instance, staff and supervisors should contact the HR Consultant who is located on the campus on which you work. The HR Consultants work as part of a national team to provide continuous and consistent services in the event of your local HR Consultant being away from their office for a day or more, the voicemail message will advise which alternate HR Consultant is available to be contacted and to provide assistance.
