Terms of Reference:
  • To advise Academic Board on:
    • the development of research-related policies and the operation of those policies in accordance with the University Research and Research Training Management Plan;
    • the setting of research and research training targets in the University;
    • the development and presentation of academic staff training seminars on research-related policies;
    • the establishment of University Research Centres;
    • the operation of the Institute for the Advancement of Research;
    • the establishment of Doctoral degrees and Master's degrees by research;
    • the implementation of responsible and ethical research frameworks;
  • To administer University funding for research and research training;
  • To determine conditions of award for postgraduate scholarships and to administer these conditions in the light of University and Commonwealth requirements;
  • To administer the regulations for Doctoral degrees and Master's degrees by research;
  • To admit persons to candidature for research degrees in accordance with regulations approved by Academic Board;
  • To review regulations for Doctoral degrees and Master's degrees by research, including admission to the degrees, the administration of the degree programs and the examination procedures of the degrees;
  • To recommend the award of Doctoral degrees and Master's degrees by research to Academic Board; and
  • To promote research and research training by Indigenous Australians.
Review(s): The Committee reviews its procedures as it deems necessary and recommends accordingly to Academic Board. It was established in 2001 following the amalgamation of the University Research Degrees and University Research Management Committees.  The Committee last reviewed its Terms of Reference on 19 September 2007 and recommenced changes which were approved by Academic Board on 17 October 2007.  The Committee changed its name from the University Research and Research Training Management Committee to the University Research Committee on 18 June 2008.
