Mathematics Education and the Evaluation and assessment of programs at school through to system level. I am particularly interested in the linkages between mathematics and language learning with specific interests in multi lingual children learning and being taught mathematics. What is the language of teaching rationality in mathematics classrooms, the impact of globalization on mathematics and science education, what values are being taught ,how they are being taught and learnt in mathematics classrooms. My main approach in evaluating and assessing school programs and system levels is for qualitative studies using interpretive case study approaches
Dr Annette Cunliffe
Teaching Certificate, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Education, Masters in Education (Hons), PhD.
Particularly interested in teachers’ conceptions of teaching, learning and their subject areas. My own research was with beginning science teachers, but the methodology and approaches are more generally applicable. I am competent in qualitative and semi-quantitative methodologies for exploring meaning in teaching, learning and leadership. This includes the use of repertory grid methodology, the use of stimulated recall methodology and the use of concept mapping. Associated areas of interest are in constructivist teaching, learning and leadership, particularly as it applies to science teaching and learning. My recent research has been in areas of the implementation of mission, in an action research project involving grandparents as full time carers for their grandchildren.
