Finding meaning in the experience

DSCF2685

People go on journeys and walks throughout their lives for different reasons. My husband Colin is currently walking the Kokoda Track. When he returns he will have rich memories to share about the spirit of the experience with others and myself. In a few years time I look forward to walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage with Colin. This journey, outwardly, will be an opportunity to keep fit and admire the beauty of nature; also, inwardly, it will be a journey from the outer to the inner; it will be a time to be mindful, to reflect, personally and spiritually.

This week, the beginning of World Youth Day Week, many young adults continue a pilgrimage of great significance. Hopefully it will be an opportunity for them to get to know others, to share their hopes and to celebrate their life and faith. It will be an opportunity also to journey within, to make space and time to be silent and be attentive to the power of the Spirit.

James Wood, St Patrick’s campus MCSA president, wrote in his Thought for the Week that

“World Youth Day is a call to action, an empowering journey”.

For this to happen we need to act with courage and hope. May the enthusiasm of WYD continue to lead all people to live from the power of the Spirit, to continue to live in hope with a deep concern and commitment to justice, to stand in solidarity with one another, where there is an openness to other religions and cultures leading us to mutually engage with each other.
