Reason To Celebrate

It seems there is something to recognise every day in our calendar year – a charity, a tragedy, a triumph, etc. Wondering what to celebrate this week? How about you? Let’s celebrate YOU! As wonderful as we all are, we know that bad news travels fast. What a shame we can’t remember all the wonderful and truly amazing things we have done instead of focusing on our faults? Too quickly we dismiss compliments by bringing up a negative to counteract it. Why?

This week, instead of thinking how we could have done things better, consider how well we have done already. We can get caught up with the everyday goings on - from the honking horn of a disgruntled fellow morning driver to that ‘scandalous’ person in front of us in the check-out with 13 items in their basket, clearly ignoring the 12 items only limit! And the 6 o’clock news keeps us updated with everyone else’s negativity. What can you do?

Here’s the plan:

  1. Take a compliment graciously and let it leave you with a lasting smile.
  2. Take the time to compliment another. If they try to dismiss it, insist that the compliment still stands, regardless. (Sometimes we need a little encouragement)
  3. Forget the news one night a week – sit with your family, phone or visit a friend and talk about the things you love.
  4. Take the time to realise that you are special – you have something to contribute.
  5. Celebrate the achievements of your friends and family, but more importantly, celebrate you!

Remember: You are the BEST thing that ever happened to YOU! Enjoy!
