A Present For Me

Recently I had the opportunity to participate in our Staff Reflection morning facilitated by Maree Watt. Every time I passed by the lifts at St. Pat’s, I was drawn to the poster advertising this opportunity. What initially attracted me were the bright vivid colours of Uluru. The title of the reflection “Landscapes of the Heart” also awoke something within me.

At this time of the year, it seemed a little extravagant to allow myself some ‘time out for me’. Everywhere you go you hear people talking about how busy they are, having to meet deadlines, attending one meeting after the other and, to top it off, you throw Advent and Christmas into the mix!!!

However it was the best present I could have given myself, and I know that the others who walked this journey with me would agree. Maree led us through a gentle meditation where we had an opportunity to allow our spirit to travel to some part of this great country, a space with which we could identify for its ability to relax and renew us. What does this space do for our spirit?

In Advent, particularly, the voices of the prophets reach us with such longing and hope… the outer land so intimately connected with the inner.

Maybe a challenge for each of us at this time of the year is to give ourselves permission to spoil ourselves with that wonderful gift ….time out. All the energy of the earth is available to us each and every day. Draw it in!
